The University of Alabama in Huntsville's (UAH) Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will present a winter-term course entitled:, HudsonAlpha: The Power of Genetics, Mondays, Jan. 25 through Feb. 15.

The course is offered on the UAH campus from 8:45 a.m., to 10:15 a.m. in the Wilson Hall Auditorium (room 001). The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is offered through the UAH College of Professional Studies, and is celebrating 23 years of service through learning, leadership and community service. Attendees will learn about advancements being made in the use of genetics to positively impact some of the most pressing challenges known to man. Scientists, doctors, and specialists from the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology will discuss four areas that will directly impact jobs, medicine, bioethics, and food production in the future.

  • Monday, Jan. 25 | Presenter: Jennifer Carden - K-12 Coordinator at HudsonAlpha and a member of the Educational Outreach Team : Topic - "Inspiring Tomorrow's Biotech Workforce"
  • Monday, Feb. 1 | Presenter: Dr. David Bick - Faculty Investigator in HudsonAlpha's Genomic Medicine Program: Topic - "Clinical Genetics and Genomics"
  • Monday, Feb. 8 | Presenter: Dr. Kimberly Strong - Faculty Investigator and Program Director for HudsonAlpha's Genomics and Ethics: Topic - "Where Do Bioethical Questions Fit into the Exciting World of Genomics?"
  • Monday, Feb. 15 | Presenter: Jeremy Schmutz - Director Informatics and Production Sequencing Groups at the HudsonAlpha Genome Center: Topic - "Plant Genomics: Towards a Better World."
