Research The College of Science (COS) at The University of Alabama in Huntsville is home to a vibrant and diverse research community, comprising Ph.D. programs in seven departments: Atmospheric and Earth Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, and Space Science. Our faculty lead nationally recognized research programs, with astronomy and astrophysics, atmospheric science and meteorology, and computer and information sciences ranked among the top ten in the nation (and first in the State of Alabama) by the National Science Foundation. The college boasts distinguished scholars, including a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), fellows of major scientific societies such as the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Chemical Society (ACS), and multiple recipients of the NSF CAREER award. COS faculty members serve as the intellectual anchors for multidisciplinary research endeavors with partners inside and outside UAH. Research is also a core part of the student experience in the COS, with both graduate and undergraduate students being actively engaged in cutting-edge projects. Our students are frequent recipients of prestigious awards, including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, the NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship, and the NASA FINESST Scholarship, reflecting the college’s strong commitment to mentoring and scientific excellence.
