Biography

Dr. Alisa Henrie is currently the Department Chair for UAH’s Engineering Technology Bachelor of Science Degree program.  “Engineering technology is the profession in which a knowledge of mathematics and natural sciences gained by higher education, experience, and practice is devoted primarily to the implementation and extension of existing technology for the benefit of humanity. Engineering technology education focuses primarily on the applied aspects of science and engineering aimed at preparing graduates for practice in that portion of the technological spectrum closest to product improvement, manufacturing, construction, and engineering operational functions.” – Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology (ABET). 

Her passion project is helping students build on a foundation of previous knowledge and experiences, expand their understanding and apply their learning to solve new problems.

Her industry experience is with the Boeing company working mainly with the Boeing 747 but she also ran special projects on materials fire safety across the entire Boeing commercial fleet. Her doctoral work involved Grain Boundary Engineering to improve material properties at Brigham Young University under Dr. Brent Adams.  And her master’s degree research was with Dr. Larry Howell’s CMR team (Compliant Mechanism Research) regarding smart materials. She also works with UAH’s Tech Trek program teaching middle school STEM educators from across the state on how to implement Engineering principles in the classroom.
