Louise C. O'Keefe, assistant professor of nursing in The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) College of Nursing was recently honored by the prestigious organization the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) with a 2014 State Award for Excellence.

Dr. O'Keefe (PhD, CRNP), who also serves as the director of the UAH Faculty/Staff Clinic (FSC), was honored at an awards ceremony and reception in Nashville.

She was named director of the FSC in June 2007. The FSC is currently located in Spragins Hall (room 127D). Plans for a new UAH clinic location are underway to accommodate more health services in prevention and treatment. Dr. O'Keefe's scholarly focus on occupational health makes her uniquely qualified to provide services to university employees. She is recognized as a valued mentor and preceptor for other faculty and students.

The AANP is the largest professional membership organization for nurse practitioners (NP) of all specialties. It represents the interests of the nation's 189,000 NPs, including more than 50,000 members, providing a unified networking platform, and advocating for their role as providers of high-quality, cost-effective, comprehensive, patient-centered and personalized health care. The organization provides legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels, advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NP patients and other health care consumers.
