Established by the Alabama Legislature in 1971. Thirty-six students were graduated in 1974. That same year the School of Nursing baccalaureate program was granted initial accreditation by the National League for Nursing. The School was designated a College of Nursing in 1987. Since inception, the UAH College of Nursing has graduated nearly 8,000 alumni and added three advanced degrees: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science (PhD).
