Our Office of Military & Veterans Programs (MVP), serves military veterans and their dependents during their time as students at UAH. The MVP office assists students with applications for veterans' educational benefits to which they may be entitled as a result of their service or dependency status. While the MVP staff does not determine eligibility for assistance, it does ensure that proper paperwork is completed, certified, and filed with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The Office of Military & Veterans Programs also offers resources for transitioning to the institution and encourages participation in programs to help students stay engaged at UAH. Office Location: Student Services Building (SSB), Suite 119 Walk-in hours: M-F: 8:15 AM - 5:00 PM Important Information Priority Registration Veterans registered with the Office of Military & Veterans Programs will receive priority registration in accordance with UAH Policy #02.01.13. Please visit the Registrar class registration webpage for specific dates: https://www.uah.edu/registrar/registration Veterans who are not using benefits but would like to take advantage of priority registration should contact the Office of Military and Veterans Programs at vacontact@uah.edu. Please note that students not using VA benefits should submit their DD-214 to the MVP Office for verification purposes. Certifying Process If this is your first time utilizing your VA benefits you will need to verify your VA benefits eligibility at: va.gov Once on the va.gov webpage: Go to the box labeled "Education" Apply for education benefits Scroll to "How do I apply" Click on the green box that states "Find your education benefits form" This process will prompt you to apply for your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) -Upon receipt of your COE, please include a copy along with your completed Enrollment Verification Form (Previously known as the "Blue Form"). If you are a returning student and your COE is already on file, you simply need to complete and have your advisor approve your Enrollment Verification Form each semester to receive benefits. Any changes in enrollment must be emailed to: vacontact@uah.edu immediately to avoid payment problems. Priority Processing Students who submit their forms before the first day of the new term will receive priority processing. For prompt processing, students should have all necessary paperwork submitted as soon as they are registered and before the first day of class. Forms can be submitted after the priority processing deadline but students should make financial plans knowing that benefits could be significantly delayed and will not be received by the first day of class. Choice Act The Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 ("Choice Act") requires institutions to charge qualifying Veterans and dependents tuition and fees at the in-state rate. It is the responsibility of the student to understand the requirements and to apply for in-state rates by completing the Application for Determination of Alabama Residency for Tuition Purposes at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Additional Support We are excited to announce the addition of the VA Work-study Program to the MVP Office. When students call or visit the office, they may be assisted by a student who has been trained to answer questions and assist students with various processes. If you are interested in applying for the VA Work Study Program, please send an email along with your resume to vacontact@uah.edu.
