The “Application Submission Deadlines” are the deadlines to submit an application in your Charger Status account for a given term. The “Application Processing Deadlines” are the last date that we will accept application materials. Please note that certain programs may have earlier application deadlines. Programs also may require an early application in order to be considered for an assistantship. Please contact the program coordinator for the program in which you are interested for more information. What is the status of my application? Students can keep track of their application status through their Charger Status account. By clicking on the submitted application, they can view their missing supplemental items and their admissions decision. How long does it take to get a decision back? Once a student has applied, paid the application fee, and submitted all of the required application materials, the Admissions Office will conduct an initial review of the application packet to ensure that we have everything we need. This review typically takes 1-2 business days. If nothing additional is requested from the student, the application packet will then be sent to the department of the academic program for review. Department review times vary based on program and time of the year. Students will be notified via email once the admission decision has been processed. I will no longer be able to begin my program during the term for which I applied. Can I defer my application? Students can submit the “Request a Term Change” form in their Charger Status account to request for their entry term to be changed to the next available entry term for that program. All term change requests are subject to approval. Please note that students may only request to change their entry term once per application. Program Applications Can I apply for more than one program? Yes; however, students will need to complete a separate application and pay the application fee for each program to which they wish to apply. If I apply to a PhD program and am denied admission, will I automatically be considered for admission to the Master’s program in the same area of study? No. If a student would like to be considered for admission to another program, they will need to complete a separate application for that program. Application Fee How much is the application fee? The application fee is $60.00. This fee is non-refundable. Can you waive or discount my application fee? Current UAH JUMP students and full-time UAH employees will automatically have their application fees waived upon applying. Current UAH undergraduate students and graduates of UAH will receive a discounted application fee of $35.00. If you are a current UAH graduate student seeking to switch or add a program, you might be eligible for a fee waiver. Please email admissions@uah.edu to see if you are eligible. If you do not fall into one of the above categories, then we will not be able to waive or discount your application fee. We do not have a process for applying for an application fee waiver. Application Materials I have submitted an application material to UAH through a third party. Why has it not been marked received in my Charger Status account? It can take up to 3 business days for our office to process transcripts and transcript evaluations and 5-10 business days to process test scores once they have been received. If the appropriate amount of time has passed and your application material has still not been marked received, please email admissions@uah.edu with any order details you have. Why can’t I upload a certain material in my Charger Status Account? You will need to fully submit your application online in order to see your application checklist and be able to upload your application materials. Please note that official transcripts, official transcript evaluations, and official test scores must be sent to UAH directly by the issuing entity and cannot be uploaded by students into their Charger Status account. Are GRE or GMAT scores required for admission? It depends on the program to which you are applying. Please view our test score requirements to determine if your program requires test scores for admissions consideration. I want to apply to a graduate program, but I have not yet finished my bachelor’s degree. Do I need to wait until I complete my undergraduate degree to apply? If you plan to complete your undergraduate degree prior to the term that you plan to start a graduate program, you can go ahead and apply. A student (other than an individual with non-immigrant visa status) in this situation can be provisionally admitted to a graduate program, and will need to send their final official college transcript once their undergraduate degree has been conferred. What is the UAH school code to have GRE and TOEFL scores reported to the Office of Admissions from Educational Testing Service (ETS)? The UAH school code is 1854. Funding & Scholarships Do you offer funding for your programs? At UAH, funding at the graduate level is available in the form of graduate assistantships which typically involve working closely with faculty members or administrative offices. These positions are awarded individually by each department, so you'll need to reach out to them for information on availability. Graduate assistantships are competitive, and the application process varies by department. You will need to apply directly to the department or faculty member offering the assistantship. If awarded, you’ll receive a stipend and a tuition waiver, which can significantly offset the cost of graduate education. For detailed application information and the specific opportunities available, please visit our website or contact the program coordinator of the program to which you are applying. What is included in an assistantship package? A full-time (9-12 enrolled hours) assistantship (20 hours/week) typically covers full tuition benefits, full health insurance (single person), a stipend, and associated fees. What does an assistantship position pay? Please visit our Graduate Assistantships page for information on stipend rates. What is the deadline to apply for assistantships? The deadline to apply for assistantships varies by program, so you will need to check with your program coordinator to determine the deadline. Programs often require students to complete their admission application by a certain date in order to be considered for a position, so be sure to seek out this information early. Are there any other scholarships or financial aid opportunities available? UAH offers the Competitive Scholarship Application, which allows students to submit one application to be considered for several competitive scholarships. Students must be admitted in order to apply for these scholarships. Please visit our Graduate Financial Aid page for information on additional opportunities to help fund your graduate studies. JUMP Students I am a current UAH JUMP Student. Do I still need to apply to a graduate program? Yes, even if you have been accepted into your JUMP program, you still need to submit an application to your graduate program. Be sure to mark “JUMP” as your Admission Type on the application When should I submit my graduate application? Please apply during your final semester of your undergraduate enrollment. You must apply to start your graduate program within one year of your undergraduate graduation. Do I need to submit anything with my application? No. UAH Admissions will waive your application fee and verify that you have met your program’s JUMP requirements. International Graduate Admissions What are the additional admission requirements for international students? All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate the English language proficiency necessary to succeed in degree programs at UAH as indicated by completing at least one standardized English proficiency exams with the respective minimum score listed on our International Graduate Admissions page. If you completed coursework at a college or university in a foreign country, you may be requested to provide a course-by-course evaluation of your transcripts through an approved agency. The agency you choose must send the official evaluation directly to UAH. Please visit our International Graduate Admissions page for required minimum English proficiency scores, approved transcript evaluation agencies, and more information on admissions requirements for international students. Is there a deadline for international students to apply? International students seeking a F-1 Visa MUST be admitted in order to request an I-20 immigration form, and I-20 forms MUST be requested before the dates found on the International Graduate Admissions page. We recommend that students seeking a F-1 Visa complete their application at least two months prior to the above deadlines to ensure that there is enough time to have your application processed and request your I-20. Can my English Language Proficiency score requirement be waived? Your English Language Proficiency score requirement can be waived if: You graduated from an accredited high school or university in the United States. You graduated from an International Baccalaureate high school with an IB diploma. Your first language is English and you completed your schooling in English in a country where English is an official language. Please consult the International Graduate Admissions page for more information on English language proficiency requirements. I have been asked to provide an evaluated transcript. What is this? If our Admissions Office requests an evaluated international transcript, you will need to get a course-by-course transcript evaluation by one of the approved transcript evaluators listed on our International Graduate Admissions page. This is required in order for your program to accurately assess your academic readiness. You will need to request for the evaluating agency to send the official transcript evaluation directly to UAH to complete your application. Is there an alternative to getting a transcript evaluation, such as an internal evaluation or verification from the original institution? No. If we have requested a transcript evaluation, we need the evaluation in order to properly assess your academic readiness for the program to which you are applying, and we cannot accept any alternatives. My application is complete except for one material (e.g., my transcript evaluation or English language proficiency scores). Can my application be reviewed while I am waiting for material to be completed and sent to UAH? No. We are not able to review applications until they are complete. I have been admitted. How do I request an I-20 or otherwise get assistance with the Visa process? If you have been admitted to your program, our International Office of Student and Scholar Services will be reaching out to you with information on this process. You can contact their office at isss@uah.edu with any questions.
