Welcome to the Complex Systems Integration Laboratory

Located at UAH's Von Braun Research Hall, the Complex Systems Integration Laboratory (CSIL) is a facility for advanced systems engineering with a focus on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Acquisition (MBA) research. The Rotorcraft Systems Engineering and Simulation Research Center (RSESC) and the Industrial Systems Engineering and Engineering Management academic department (ISEEM) are partnered within UAH to educate students at all levels and to work from fundamental research to practical applications of interest to the community.

By partnering with industry, NASA, and the Department of Defense, our team has assisted the community to mature model-based technologies for a broad range of applications. The CSIL’s MBSE tools utilize the Systems Modeling Language (SysML), Unified Modeling Language (UML), DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Architecture Analysis & Design Language (AADL), as well as other common systems modeling languages. System models can integrate parametric models developed using tools external to the systems model, such as MATLAB/Simulink simulations hosted on the CSIL servers. The CSIL team has worked with various model-based engineering (MBE) toolsets including Dassault’s 3dExperience/Winning Program, Siemens Teamcenter PLM, No Magic’s Cameo Suite, and Phoenix Integration’s Model Center, as well as other domain-specific MBE tools.

UAH is focused not only on developing tools, user interfaces, and software interfaces that can satisfy the needs of the community, but also on helping to understand the model space for particular applications.
