Lancers represent UAH on major occasions such as commencement, fall convocation, meetings of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees, milestone celebrations such as ribbon cuttings, and at functions hosted by the president. Lancers serve a one-year term beginning in January and are required to work a minimum of 15 hours each semester. Lancer Benefits Lancers gain valuable career-enhancing soft skills that build confidence and provide an advantage in interviews for jobs or selection for graduate or professional school, and that help smooth the transition from student to working professional. These include training in how to network, contemporary business etiquette, dining skills, the art of conversation, and the ability to present oneself with confidence and authority. Lancers routinely meet elected officials, distinguished scientists, authors, engineers, and artists, and mingle with local and state business and opinion leaders.
