The Department of Biological Sciences hosts several instruments that are being used by the researchers in the Colleges of Science and Engineering.

Fluorescence Microscopy

Zeiss LSM 700 Confocal Microscope is located in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology room 361 (Dr. Ahmed Lawan Laboratory). Please contact Dr. Anu Subramanian for general permission to use this instrument; Dr. Bruce Stallsmith and Dr. Ahmed Lawan if you are interested in getting trained to use this instrument. For users already trained, please signed up here and don't forget to reserve a time slot.

Sample Separation by Centrifugation

ThermoFisher LYNX6000 centrifuge is located in the shared equipment room 341. Please contact Dr. Tanya Sysoeva to receive training, user ID/pin required for use, and to be added to the centrifuge users' mailing list.

Sterilization by Autoclaving

Four autoclaves are available at the third floor of the Shelby Center for Science and Technology. Please contact Dr. Roger Cruz-Vera to receive training and to be added to the autoclave users' mailing list.

Plate Reader access

Departmental plate reader Molecular Devices iD5 is located in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology in the room 350A. This instrument provides characterization of absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence, fluorescence polarization and time-resolved measurements for liquid samples and access to the SoftMax7 software for plate reader data analysis. Please contact Dr. Tanya Sysoeva to receive training needed for using the instrument and to be added to the calendar and mailing list for this plate reader.
