counseling center art studio

The Studio is a great space to explore your creative side and engage in expressive arts. We offer open studio times and counselor-lead art therapy sessions during the semester.  The art therapy group is available weekly and offers art experientials that are often more specific—meaning that the therapist provides a specific art directive for that session. The directive may be the exploration of a specific theme, such as "create an image of what your anxiety looks like."

Any student may participate in the group and it is not required to attend regularly.  You don't need to be a skilled artist to experience the benefits of being creative. Use this space to explore your emotions and experiences through the activities in the room. Being creative reduces stress, improves problem-solving abilities, and helps you gain insight. To use the open studio times, you must be a student who attends one of the groups offered or individual sessions as this space is behind our confidential areas. Occasionally, our clinicians will use The Studio during their sessions with students to enhance the therapeutic process through creative outlets.
