Dr. Carolyn Sanders is Professor of Music at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. She joined the faculty in 1990 upon completion of the Doctor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Florida State University. She received her Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California, Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri, and her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Sanders is active as a recitalist and clinician throughout the South, as well as Europe, and is the former Principal Trumpet of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Her current teaching duties at The University of Alabama in Huntsville include studio trumpet, music history, music theory, and music literature. She is a 1998 recipient of the UAH Award for Distinguished Teaching, and holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda Honorary Society, College Music Society, International Trumpet Guild, and the Historic Brass Society.
Dr. Sanders has studied with noted performers such as Boyde Hood and Rob Roy McGregor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Bryan Goff of Florida State University, Betty Scott of the University of Missouri, and Arnold Jacobs, retired tubist of the Chicago Symphony. Maintaining a particular interest in Baroque music, she has also studied Baroque trumpet with Edward Tarr of Basil, Switzerland. In addition, she has been awarded two research grants from The University of Alabama in Huntsville which have allowed her to travel to Europe to study the music of certain Baroque composers. As a result of her research, Dr. Sanders has edited several compositions which have been published by Musica Rara of Monteux, France.
