Contests Women's and Gender Studies sponsors an educational competition that fosters exploration of women and gender among college students. Kathryn L. Harris Women's and Gender Studies Writing Competition The UAH Women’s and Gender Studies Program honors undergraduate and graduate written work that deals substantially with women, women’s issues, or the study of gender. We invite the submission of both analytical essays and creative writing. Cash prizes of up to $100 will be awarded. SUBMISSION RULES Entries will only be accepted from currently enrolled UAH students. All entries must have been written for a UAH course. Entries previously submitted to this contest will not be accepted. All entries must be written in, or translated into, English. Any field of study is eligible, as long as women’s and/or gender issues are substantially addressed. Entries may be no more than 15 typed pages. All references must be cited appropriately. Entries must include a cover page with the title of the work, the author’s name, and, if applicable, the name of the course and professor originally assigning the work. The author’s name should not appear on any page of the entry except the cover. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Persuasiveness, clarity, and coherence of argument or narrative Efficiency of organization Effectiveness and appropriateness of language Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and spelling DEADLINE Submit entries via email to email@example.com or in person to the Women’s and Gender Studies Program Office (MOR 278M) by February 16, 2021.
