Arthur Murray, an Engineering Technology student at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a part of the University of Alabama System, symbolizes the spirit of innovation and determination. As we celebrate Black History Month, his journey exemplifies the pursuit of excellence in academia and entrepreneurship.
Traveling from Montgomery to Huntsville and discovering UAH's engineering focus solidified his choice to select this institution as his academic home. "After touring several colleges, UAH stood out. Its size, unlike larger universities, was the perfect fit for me, coming from a smaller private school," he explains.
Driven by a passion for hands-on work, Murray transitioned from mechanical engineering to engineering technology at the College of Science. This shift allowed him to delve deeper into practical applications and have a more flexible schedule to dedicate time to his business. Murray's entrepreneurial journey began in 2021 with the start of a product design business. Collaborating with companies and individuals on concept development, prototyping, and manufacturing.

"My business partner and I had the idea to make these electric scooters for campus to get around a lot easier, and we realized that would be very expensive. So then that led us to want to make bike hubs that go on the UAH bikes to make them electric," he says.
Murray's entrepreneurial journey received a substantial boost through the College of Business's Bridge program, offering invaluable support and resources to student startups. His company, Core Prototyping, co-founded with his best friend Sam Lewis, has provided him with invaluable insights into business ownership, 3D printing technology, and client relations, shaping his understanding of entrepreneurship. They are located within the UAH Invention to Innovation Center (I2C), a hub for creativity and collaboration.
Murray's interests come from his childhood experiences, where his fascination with engineering manifested through activities like building complex structures with Lego-like games. His robotics involvement throughout middle and high school further solidified his interests.
Looking ahead, Murray aims to contribute to Huntsville's technological landscape while nurturing his business for sustained growth. His commitment to expanding his industry knowledge is evident through his pursuit of internships and industry experiences.
As advice to other aspiring entrepreneurs and students navigating their academic journey, Murray highlights the importance of self-reflection and perseverance. He remarks, "Don't be afraid; if you want to start a business, just start it. There's gonna be ups and downs, but you won't know how it'll turn out if you don't at least try."
