What happens during an advising appointment?

  • Review your choice of major, minor, and concentration (if applicable) and discuss how it is going.
  • Review your Degree Works progress, a self-service degree auditing tool available to you anytime.
  • Create or update your personalized long range plan that outlines all of the courses you need to take to complete your degree.
  • Discuss outside factors that might be impacting your academic career, include work, family, financial needs, and much more. We can help you identify how to make your personal life best mesh with your academic plans.
  • Identify UAH resources that you may find helpful, such as meeting with the Pre-Professional Advising Office, going to the Office of Financial Aid for questions about scholarships, or the Student Success Center for help with a particularly difficult course.
  • Examine unique College of Science opportunities such as: Science Ambassadors, undergraduate research, the many student clubs & organizations, employment opportunities, internship choices, and much much more.
