Nov 11, 2020 In an effort to reduce the risk of phishing and spam emails, OIT will enable two email security features on December 15, 2020 at 9 A.M. The first is called Subject Tagging. This will add [External] to the subject line of email messages that originate from outside the uah.edu domain. Mailing list and email services that have already been designated as trusted will not be affected. Only the appearance (the subject line), and not the delivery, of the email message will change. The second measure is to reduce the amount of spoofed emails. A spoofed email is a message that appears to originate from a @uah.edu email address but is not from an approved UAH email server. This change will increase the likelihood that any spoofed email will be marked as spam whether the email is sent to a UAH email account or outside account. OIT has been testing both of these changes for the past 6 months. During this time, many services were identified that were designated as trusted. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact the OIT Help Desk via email between 8 and 5 Monday through Friday. You can call us 24/7, and you can use the Client Portal any time to browse Knowledge Base articles and OIT Services. Access the Client Portal at uah.edu/ithelp.
