Junpeng Guo, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Optics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), was recently elected Fellow of SPIE (International Society for Optics and Photonics).. Guo has been cited "for his achievements in photonics and plasmonics."

Guo directs the Nanophotonics and Plasmonics Laboratory at UAH. He and his students explore novel plasmonic nanostructures to manipulate light for various applications from biosensing to solar energy harvesting. Guo is the inventor of the surface plasmon resonance spectrometer sensor, a new platform for biosensing. He also is the inventor of the hybrid metal-dielectric low loss surface plasmon waveguide, a new kind of lightwave circuits based on metal strips. Guo publishes intensively in his area of research and is active in the optics and photonics community. Currently he serves as an Associate Editor of the SPIE Journal of Nanophotonics and also as an Associate Editor of the Photonics Research journal of the Optical Society of America.

SPIE is a professional not-for-profit organization founded in 1955 to advance light-based science, engineering, and technology. Since the society’s inception, more than 1,300 SPIE members have become Fellows.
