Colleagues,

Based on feedback from students, faculty, and staff and after reviewing practices at other institutions, we have modified UAH’s renewal procedure for freshman academic (merit) and transfer student scholarships.  Full information can be seen at the embedded links, but the key changes to note are:  1) evaluations for renewal will be conducted annually following the spring semester and 2) students who do not meet the renewal criteria will be placed on scholarship probation for one semester (i.e., they will retain their merit scholarship while working to return to good standing).

This change also recognizes that financial difficulties are a primary reason that students leave UAH.  As such, we believe the revised practice will provide students a grace period for corrective actions, including better understanding campus resources for student success, before revoking scholarships.  Students were accepted to UAH for their potential to succeed, and the probationary period will allow them time to adapt to the rigor of a university environment.

Thanks for what you do to support our students.

Go Chargers!
