The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will be hosting its fifth annual Health Careers Day on Friday, Sept. 16, in the Shelby Center for Science and
Technology. Organizers of this event are UAH's Office of Pre-Professional Advising, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and Medical Careers Club.
Last year, Health Careers Day had 26 participating representatives and over 200 attendees. Among the latter was a group from Muscle Shoals High School, led by guidance counselor Elesia Crosswhite.
"UAH's Health Careers Day helps our students see the big picture," she says. "Many of them are interested in healthcare careers that require training
beyond a bachelor's degree. So this gives them the opportunity to meet with professionals in the fields they are interested in pursuing and discuss
academic requirements needed to reach their educational goals. After, they are able to be more realistic about their career goals and the steps to obtain
them."
Throughout the day, students attend the event's exhibit fair and meet with professional school representatives from around the region. They can also choose
from a selection of educational sessions, whose topics this year include "Peer to Peer Connection," "Exploring Undergraduate Research," "Getting Involved,"
"Work Experience to Improve your Application," and a "Human Cadaver Live Feed/Demonstration."
Registration for Health Careers Day is open to students attending UAH as well as those from other colleges, institutions, and high schools in the surrounding community.
All students interested in a health-care career are encouraged to attend, particularly those interested in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary
medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, and public health.
