WELCOME BACK!

We are so excited to have our UFC family back in the building with us beginning Tuesday, June 16 at 5:00am! In the interest of keeping all patrons as safe as possible, we have implemented a set of new guidelines that are explained in detail below. We encourage all patrons to read through the guidelines thoroughly prior to visiting the UFC. 

We encourage all patrons to STAY HOME if you exhibit any symptoms related to the COVID-19 virus, including:

  • Fever
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat
  • Chills
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite
  • Muscle aches

In addition to the guidelines below, we also encourage all patrons to participate in best practices communicated by the CDC to STOP THE SPREAD when visiting recreational facilities, including:

  • Maintaining a distance of 6 feet between yourself and other patrons at all times
  • Wearing a face mask (not required, but encouraged)
  • Washing your hands with soap and water frequently while in the facility
  • Cleaning any equipment that is touched before and after use
Adjusted Hours

In order to allow for proper cleaning and disinfecting each day, building hours will be adjusted to the following:

Monday-Friday: 5AM - 8PM

Saturday: 7AM - 8PM

Sunday: 1PM - 5PM

Area-Specific Guidelines

In an effort to adhere to all CDC guidelines, each area of the UFC will have a specific set of guidelines to follow that will allow for a great workout while also practicing social distancing and proper cleaning.

Aquatics

  • Patrons will only be allowed to participate in lap swimming or group exercise.
  • No lane-sharing will be allowed.
  • No ISR (Infant Swimming Resource) lessons will be allowed
  • Equipment must be sanitized by the patron after use, including swim fins, weights, belts, etc.  
  • Foam weights and resistance gloves will not be available for use.
  • No swim goggles will be provided by the UFC to be shared.
  • DOORS and FLOW:  Doors in the main corridor will be entrance only and doors closest to locker rooms will be exit only.
  • Swim Lessons will be canceled for the remainder of the summer.

Cardio Area

  • Patrons must keep at least one piece of equipment between themselves and the next closest person in the row they are occupying at all times.
  • Equipment must be sanitized by the patron after use.

Front Desk

  • Sneeze guards will be located at the desk to protect patrons and staff when conducting business transactions.
  • For any credit card transactions, staff will hand the patron the credit card swiper to eliminate exchanging of cards.
  • Any equipment that is checked out will be sanitized by the front desk staff as soon as it is checked in. 
  • Front desk staff will sanitize all surfaces/keyboards/pens/etc. before clocking out of their shift.
  • Patrons will be allowed to bypass the turnstile to eliminate the possibility of touching another surface.

Group Exercise

  • A limited in-person schedule will be offered, with most classes occurring on the Back Court.
    • Classes that are conducted on the back court will adhere to following guidelines:
      • Classes will be limited to 25 participants.
      • The floors will be marked to indicate “pods” 6 ft. apart from each other to ensure social distancing is maintained at all times.
      • All equipment will be sanitized by participants immediately following the class.
      • No equipment will be shared by participants at any time.
    • Classes that are conducted in Room A will adhere to following guidelines:
      • Classes will be limited to 15 participants.
      • The floors will be marked to indicate “pods” 6 ft. apart from each other to ensure social distancing is maintained at all times.
      • All equipment will be sanitized by participants immediately following the class.
      • No equipment will be shared by participants at any time.
  • Virtual classes will still be offered, but will be moved to a private Facebook group (UFC Virtual Group Exercise Classes) to allow UFC members-only to participate. Members will request to join the group and will be approved pending confirmation of their membership.

Gymnasium

  • The gymnasium will be open for individual activity ONLY (singles badminton is allowed). No team sports will be allowed in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Locker Rooms

  • Access will only be allowed to the restroom area of the locker room (toilets and sinks).
  • Per state guidelines, patrons will not be allowed to access lockers or showers. These areas will be barred from entry. 

Weight Room

  • At least ONE (1) piece of equipment must be between yourself and the next patron
  • Only ONE (1) person per squat rack and bench press
  • Only THREE (3) people can occupy the cage at one time
  • Equipment must be sanitized immediately after use
  • Dumbbells
    • Only SIX (6) patrons will be allowed to utilize the dumbbell area at one time and will occupy “pods” that will be marked on the floor to ensure social distancing
    • Equipment must be sanitized by the patron after use

Youth Exercise

  • Closed until further notice.
Billing
  • Recurring monthly billing will resume on July 1. 
    • Any patrons wishing to terminate their membership must email recreation@uah.edu prior to July 1. The two-week notice policy will be waived. 
      • Patrons will continue to have access until July 1 should they choose to terminate.
  • All 1 month, 3 month, and 12 month membership end dates will be adjusted and extended to account for the time the UFC was closed. 
Employee Guidelines and Procedures
  • All employees/contractors (professional and student staff) will be required to wear a face covering (cloth mask, scarf, bandana etc.). 
  • All employees/contractors will be required to get their temperature checked prior to working. This will be conducted by the Supervisor on Duty/Front Desk Employee.
  • All employees/contractors will have participated in an online educational module, including but not limited to general information regarding COVID-19 and the COVID-19 assessment tool.
Enhanced Cleaning Measures
  • Additional hand sanitizer and cleaning solution will be placed in high-traffic areas, specifically the weight room and cardio area.
  • Custodial and fitness staff will resume enhanced cleaning efforts as was in place immediately before shut-down, including:
    • Frequent cleaning of all door handles and surfaces.
    • Frequent cleaning of all equipment. 
    • Frequent cleaning of bathroom areas and water bottle fountains.
  • Closing staff will clean all surfaces and pieces of equipment at the close of business each day.
  • The facility as a whole will be deep cleaned on a weekly basis using a Clorox 360.
  • Staff Cleaning Procedures - Aquatics
    • In addition to their normal cleaning procedures throughout the day, aquatics/custodial staff will ensure all pieces of equipment are thoroughly sanitized every two hours.
  • Staff Cleaning Procedures - Cardio Area
    • In addition to their normal cleaning procedures throughout the day, fitness/custodial staff will ensure all pieces of equipment are thoroughly cleaned every two hours.
  • Staff Cleaning Procedures - Group Exercise
    • In addition to their normal cleaning procedures throughout the day, fitness/custodial staff will ensure all pieces of equipment are thoroughly sanitized before and after the morning, lunch, and evening classes.
  • Staff Cleaning Procedures - Weight Room
    • In addition to their normal cleaning procedures throughout the day, fitness/custodial staff will ensure all pieces of equipment are thoroughly sanitized every two hours.
