Outreach reporting of continuing education activity encompasses noncredit educational programs purposefully and deliberately initiated, planned, organized or hosted by a University academic or business unit.

SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation 3.4.2 requires a well-defined administrative structure for the reporting and record-keeping process of noncredit outreach programs and activities sponsored by the University. UAH's campus-wide system centralizes the documentation and reporting of all noncredit UAH outreach activities through the Office of Institutional, Research, Effectiveness, & Assessment (OIREA).

Reporting Responsibility

Each University academic or business unit is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of all noncredit educational programs and outreach activities each term. Each sponsoring college, department, or business unit should complete a Program/Activity Reporting Form for each activity and submit to OIREA each term. As an ongoing process, a designated individual within each area should be responsible for submitting the required forms and documents.

Term Reporting Deadlines

Fall (Aug 17 - Dec 12, 2022) must be submitted by 12.16.22
Spring (Jan 9 - May 26, 2023) must be submitted by 5.26.23
Summer (May 30 - Aug 15, 2023) must be submitted by 8.15.23

Reporting Process

Noncredit outreach programs arise from a planned response to specific identified educational needs of a targeted group. This need is assessed and incorporated into the program (learning experience) through a structured planning process.

  • A completed Program/Activity Record Form for each individual program, course, activity, or event must be submitted to OIREA within 14 days of program conclusion.
  • One copy of a program brochure or other description material should also be included.
  • Upon program completion, the actual number of participants or notice of cancellation must be sent to OIREA.
  • A permanent record of the program and a validated headcount of attendance is maintained and reported.

Outreach Categorization

Programs seeking to provide personal learning enrichment, support community or economic development, or encourage civic engagement are recognized as outreach reporting activities.

  • All programs must be consistent with the institution's mission and vision.
  • Formats may include but are not limited to: Classroom instruction, online learning, conferences, workshops, symposiums, and lectures.

Outreach is a residual category for all noncredit activities which contribute to the outreach mission of the University, involve commitment of time and resources, and are officially sponsored by the University.

  • Individual and Institutional CEUs are not awarded but a permanent record of the program is maintained and reported.
  • These activities may or may not register individual participants; only a validated headcount is required for record-keeping.
  • Evaluation is at the discretion of the responsible faculty/staff member of the sponsoring University academic/business unit.

The Office of Institutional, Research, Effectiveness, & Assessment (OIREA) is available to provide assistance in completing forms, identifying which programs to report, or answering any questions.
