The University of Alabama in Huntsville will again host one of the community’s biggest holiday events — Peace on Earth: A Holiday Spectacular.

Indigo Girls, an American folk-rock music duo, will be this year’s special guest for the seventh annual "Peace on Earth" concert scheduled for Saturday, December 7th at 7:30 p.m. in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center.

The event captures the spirit of the season with a selection of traditional holiday classics – and showcases the collaborative efforts of the city's arts organizations. This extravaganza is presented by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

The 2019 Holiday Spectacular features UAH music faculty and students, Huntsville Ballet, HCC Youth Chorale, and members of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra who will offer seasonal favorites to kick off your holiday season. Indigo Girls take the stage as our gift to you, says Dr. David Ragsdale, Chair of the Department of Music.

"Peace on Earth is no longer just the university's annual holiday spectacular," says Dr. David Ragsdale. "It has become the city of Huntsville's signature, not-to-be-missed holiday event of the year!"

Tickets are only available at uah.edu/peace with all proceeds from Peace on Earth benefiting the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Indigo Girls are an American folk-rock music duo from Atlanta consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. The two met in elementary school and began performing together as high school students in Decatur, Georgia, part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. They started performing with the name Indigo Girls as students at Emory University, performing weekly at The Dugout, a bar in Emory Village.

They released a self-produced, full-length record album entitled Strange Fire in 1987, and contracted with a major record company in 1988. After releasing nine albums with major record labels from 1987 through 2007, the Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum duo has now resumed self-producing albums with their own IG Recordings company.
