December 18, 2024 Two University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) students were among the four cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants into the United States Army during the Fall 2024 Army Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Commissioning Ceremony at the Ernest L. Knight Auditorium on the Alabama A&M University Campus on December 12. Major General Gavin A. Lawrence, U.S. Army Material Command Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Operations (G-3) provided remarks and administered the Oath of Office to the four cadets, officially commissioning them as second lieutenants. For 2nd Lt. Gabriel Ramirez, a nursing graduate from Huntsville, Alabama, the future looks bright. “The Army will give me countless opportunities to excel and to develop myself,” he says. “I know that when I get out of the Army, I’ll be a valuable asset to anyone hiring. College nursing students should definitely consider the Army.” Ramirez will serve on active duty in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. 2nd Lt. Nathaniel Bartee is also excited for what lies ahead. An engineering graduate from Huntsville, Alabama, Bartee will serve on active duty in the Quartermaster Corps. “I am extremely grateful for the education and lessons I have learned from UAH and my fellow classmates along my journey to becoming a 2LT in the United States Army. I am joyful to have completed my degree at UAH and hope to return for my master’s,” he says. “We place the future of our military in your hands,” said Lawrence during his remarks. “Today, you commit to leading the best Army in the world. I challenge you to be servant leaders - leaders who are dedicated to developing and supporting the soldiers under their charge.
