Biography

As the IT Manager of M. Louis Salmon Library, it's my privilege to support the technology needs of our students, faculty, staff and guests. My duties include anything from physical device lifecycle management (procurement, software installation, troubleshooting, decommissioning, etc.), to administering and sometimes even creating the numerous software applications and websites used by our patrons and employees.

I am the administrator of our cloud-hosted Alma library management system and OCLC EZProxy application, and I also assist with the management of our LibGuides. In addition, I run our locally-hosted ArchivesSpace and Omeka instances, and most recently have begun to administer a campuswide instance of REDCap which is available to any faculty member or student conducting human subjects or other survey-based research.

I've been involved in the software industry my entire career--first as a help desk representative, trainer, consultant and Symphony® product manager at SirsiDynix Corporation, and most recently as product owner of Bed Management Solution (BMS), an open source patient flow and bed occupancy application used by VA Medical Centers nationwide.

My work interests include Web accessibility compliance, authentication concepts (MFA, SSO, IdP/SP, etc.) client/server security and AI for extending the skill sets of mid-to-late career tech professionals.

I am married to Ann Lee Phillips, a long-time employee of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System. Our son Edward is involved with band and wrestling at Grissom High School.  I grew up in Albertville, AL and was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Madagascar prior to starting my work career. My hobbies tend to come and go, but I can say I've consistently listened to WLRH's "Reelin' in the Years" for as long as I've lived in Huntsville.

Please let us know how Library Systems can assist you. Go Chargers!
