David P. Moore
Library Director
Welcome to the M. Louis Salmon Library at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
As Library Director, I have the privilege of working with a dedicated team of librarians and staff committed to helping our students, faculty, researchers, and community members discover information, pursue new ideas, and succeed in their academic and professional endeavors. I have served as Director since 2010, and one of the things I value most about this role is seeing how the Library continues to evolve alongside UAH and the people we serve.
Today's library is so much more than a place to find books. The Salmon Library provides access to an extensive collection of print and electronic resources, including thousands of journals, databases, ebooks, and other materials that support teaching, learning, and research across the university. Our librarians offer research assistance and instruction, help students develop the skills they need to find and evaluate information, and work with faculty on scholarly communication, open educational resources, data, publishing, and other aspects of the research process.
The Library is also a place to create, collaborate, and explore. Our spaces include technology-rich learning environments, specialized labs, presentation and recording facilities, and areas designed to support individual study and group work. Through the Library’s Archives, Special Collections and Digital Initiatives department, we preserve and share materials that document UAH's history and the broader history of our region and communities. And through programs such as the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the Library extends its educational mission beyond the traditional university classroom.
Perhaps most importantly, the Library is a place for people. Whether you are a first-year student looking for a quiet place to study or for tutoring help at the Student Success Center, a faculty member beginning a new research project, an alumnus returning to campus, or a community member interested in exploring our collections and programs, we want the Library to be a welcoming and useful part of your experience.
I encourage you to explore everything the Salmon Library has to offer. Ask a librarian a question. Try a database you have never used. Browse our collections. Attend a program. Visit the Archives. Take advantage of our study and technology spaces. You may be surprised by what you discover!
The Library exists to support the intellectual life of UAH and to connect people with the knowledge, resources, and opportunities they need to learn and grow. We look forward to being part of your journey.
