Apply Now The following information applies to new Fall 2023-Spring 2024 applicants only. The 2023-2024 housing application for incoming new students is currently available in the student's Residential Self-Service. All incoming first year students are required to live on campus unless they live within the 30 mile radius or receive an approved exemption. Review First Year Housing Requirement for further information. New Student Housing Process Guide Step 1: Complete the Housing Contract Below is important information about the housing contract. You must be admitted to the University in order to submit a housing contract. A $125 nonrefundable application fee is required before you can submit your housing contract. Application fees are not covered by Loans, Grants, or Scholarships. In this process, you will be asked to sign the 2023-2024 Student Room/Food Service Contract. The contract is a legal, binding document for the entire academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), lasting nine months. If you are under the age of 19, a parent or guardian will be required to complete the parental verification form sent via email. This has to be completed in order to receive a housing assignment at a later date. If you submit a housing contract and then decide not to attend UAH, cancellation fees will be assessed. You can review this policy here. Watch this video about completing step one of the first-year student housing process. Limited space will be available for any new student who is not required to live on campus. A waitlist will be created to manage housing assignments for this group of students. To be placed on the waitlist, you must submit a contract for the 2023-2024 academic year. Step 2: Finding a Roommate We have partnered with MyCollegeRoomie (MCR) to offer our students an opportunity to connect with each other and search for roommates. Students will receive a welcome email from MCR approximately 24 hours after the contract has been submitted. Students will make roommate matches directly in the software and they will be sent to our housing staff. New Students will have access to MCR starting February 15th, 2023. Students will need to look out in their UAH student email for the welcome email. Download MyCollegeRoomie from your mobile device's app store to easily use the platform. You will then be able to set up a profile, answer the questionnaire, and begin connecting with other resident students! Already have a desired roommate in mind? No problem! You can search for that person in MyCollegeRoomie and match with them there. If your chosen roommate is not appearing in the search results, likely, they have not completed the housing contract yet or they have never logged into MyCollegeRoomie to complete a profile. Check with them to make sure it is complete before contacting our office. We encourage you to take the roommate matching search into your own hands! If you do not participate in the MyCollegeRoomie matching process, you will be assigned random roommates. Step 3: Housing Assignment The UAH Housing office will alert all first year students of their housing assignments in mid-June. We will communicate this information to the student’s UAH email address. We recommend checking that email regularly as it is the main form of communication used by the University. First Year students are auto assigned by a staff member in our office according to living preferences provided in their housing contract. For any student on the waiting list, you will be provided a housing assignment as space becomes available. Students will be alerted of the housing assignment via UAH student email address with an assignment letter. This process traditionally starts in late-May and continues throughout the summer as space is available. New Contract Frequently Asked Questions Who is required to live on campus? Any first year full-time undergraduate student with a permanent legal residence beyond a 30 mile radius from campus is required to live on campus. A first year student is classified as any student who graduated high school the same year they are entering college. What does it mean to be on the waiting list? For any new student who is not required to live on campus and submits a housing contract, their name will be automatically placed on a waiting list for on campus housing. This is because we are unable to guarantee a housing assignment for all upper-class students who apply for housing. By submitting the contract, the student has committed to the University even though their name is on a waiting list. We tend to start working through the list late May/early June and continue assigning as space becomes available. If an assignment has not been provided by June 30, 2023, students on the waiting list will be provided the chance to cancel their contract so they can pursue alternative options.
