Program Process

  1. We'll conduct a needs assessment with your firm - This snapshot of will help us determine your goals and where your company needs help and training.
  2. Then we'll review your current capabilities - We'll look at your firm's size, project portfolio, technical and business processes, bid success history, equipment and capital.
  3. DBE/Prime matchmaking - Based on your needs, capabilities and goals, we'll partner your firm with a pre-qualified Prime contractor currently bidding on ALDOT projects.
  4. Targeted training - We'll deliver both group and one-on-one training specific to your needs; everything from navigating the ALDOT website to insurance and bonding basics.

Program Eligibility

ALDOT Certified DBEs in the highway/bridge construction sector are eligible to participate in the UAH/ALDOT Mentor-Protege Program provided they have:

  • ALDOT certification in construction-related work types.
  • Completed preliminary assessment and recommendation by a UAH Mentor-Protege Program consultant.
  • Approval for participation from Alabama Department of Transportation's DBE Program unit.
