RIDE (Real-time Instruction for Driver Education) is a mobile driver simulator that provides training to rural transit operators across the state of Alabama. The curriculum includes decision driving, close-quarters maneuvering, negotiating intersections, and night/fog driving. Additional scenarios can be developed as needed using RIDE’s non-mobile companion simulator, housed in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. RIDE is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and overseen by the Alabama Department of Transportation with the primary goal of reducing accidents and increasing passenger and driver safety. Request Training RIDE is located on the UAH campus but offers free on-site training to individual rural transit agencies several times a month. Training can also be provided upon request to other operators at a nominal charge. Contact 256.824.RIDE (7433) RIDE@uah.edu
