The purpose of the educator preparation licensure program is to prepare P-12 Physical Education teachers for employment at schools in Alabama. A student’s learning experience will include instruction in the art of teaching as well as how to approach and manage a physically active classroom. In addition, students will have the opportunity to spend time in schools through our expanded field experience placement. Students will be required to meet all Alabama Quality Teaching Standards and specific Physical Education standards established by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE). These standards are aligned with the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) educator preparation standards and the Alabama Course of Study for Physical Education.

Physical Education students must successfully complete a 12-credit-hour internship in assigned public school classrooms as outlined by ALSDE requirements for teacher licensure. Physical Education students must also earn passing scores on the edTPA teacher licensure assessment required for Physical Education.
