Internships Students in the College of Business are encouraged to complement the coursework in their academic program by participating in an internship that provides practical work experience related to the student's field of study. An internship is a project-oriented opportunity intended to supplement your formal education by exposing you to the real-world business work environment. It can allow you to explore specific careers, develop new skills, enhance current strengths, gain career related experience, and increase your marketability. Internship course credit is available in ACC, FIN, IS, MGT, MKT, and MSC. Internships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Current internship opportunities and more information about the program are available from Career Services. Eligible Undergraduate Students Students must have completed at least 15 hours at UAH; have a minimum GPA of 2.75 in all UAH business courses and an overall GPA of 2.75; have at least 6 hours beyond the principles course in the discipline; and obtain approval of the Department Chair for the discipline. NOTE: Students must complete the internship approval process and be registered for the internship prior to the start of the internship. Eligible Graduate Students Students must have overall GPA of 3.0 and obtain approval of the Department Chair for the discipline. NOTE: Students must complete the internship approval process and be registered for the internship prior to the start of the internship. Credit Hours A 3-credit hour internship must include a minimum of 120 hours of on-site work over a 12-week period. Steps to get started! STEP 1: Complete the internship eligibility form and return it to Academic Advising in BAB 102. STEP 2: Once approved by Advising, you receive an email from the advising office. Begin your internship search on the Career Services portal! STEP 3: Bring your offer letter, detailed job description, supervisor contact information, and a statement on how the internship is related to your field of study to BAB 102. STEP 4: Once approved by the department chair, you will receive an email from the advising office about class registration. Learning Objectives The learning goals associated with internships are: Gain professional work experience related to your area of career interest. Provide a practical understanding of effective business leadership, process, and organization. Learn to contribute as an effective team member in a professional work environment. Identify relevant and pertinent examples of business practices that connect formal business theory learned in the classroom to experiences in the business environment. NOTE: If the student is an on-going employee of the company, then normally he/she would not be approved to receive internship course credit for work performed in the usual course of their duties. Work performed for the internship must be of a project-oriented nature that requires the student to develop new skills, enhance their current strengths, and gain relevant experience to their selected field of study.
