Students who have previously attended an accredited college or university after completing a high school diploma or its equivalent may apply as a transfer student.

Students with at Least 24 Academic Credit Hours

Applying for Admission as a Transfer Student with at Least 24 Academic Credit Hours:

Step 1: Apply for admission.

Step 2: Pay the $30 application fee.

Step 3: Send official college transcript(s) from EACH previously attended college/university, regardless of length of attendance or credits earned, to the Office of Admissions.

  • Applicant must hold a minimum overall college "C" average (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale), along with a minimum "C" average (2.0 GPA) in all transferrable courses.
  • Applicant's previous institution(s) must be regionally accredited.
  • Applicant must be in good standing at previous institution(s).  
  • An official final transcript will be required as soon as it is available for any work completed after submitting your application for admission.

Students with Fewer than 24 Academic Credit Hours

Applying as a Transfer Student with Fewer than 24 Academic Credit Hours:

Step 1: Apply for admission.

Step 2: Pay the $30 application fee.

Step 3: Send official college transcript(s) from EACH previously attended college/university, regardless of length of attendance or credits earned, to the Office of Admissions.

  • Applicant must hold a minimum overall college "C" average (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale), along with a minimum "C" average (2.0 GPA) in all transferrable courses.
  • Applicant's previous institution(s) must be regionally accredited.
  • Applicant must be in good standing at previous institution(s).
  • An official final transcript will be required as soon as it is available for any work completed after submitting your application for admission.

Step 4: Send official high school transcript to the Office of Admissions.

Step 5: If you have been out of high school for less than 5 years, send your official ACT or SAT test results to the Office of Admissions. We will accept ACT or SAT scores listed on your official high school transcript.

Each applicant is evaluated based on individual merit and demonstrated success in a rigorous academic environment. High school coursework, grade point average, and ACT/SAT scores are weighed heavily; however, these criteria do not constitute the entire foundation for an admission decision. An applicant with a grade point average of 2.9 and a composite score of 20 on the ACT or an equivalent SAT score, for example, is considered a strong candidate for admission. 

Transfer Credit Eligibility

Eligibility of transfer credits depends upon the subject matter of each credit and accreditation status for the institution awarding each credit. Not all transferable classes are applicable to every degree program offered at UAH. Consult an academic advisor in the college of your major to arrange evaluation of credits.

Transferring from a 4-Year College

If you are transferring from an accredited four-year institution, you may transfer an unlimited number hours with the exception of technical, remedial, vocational, and orientation credits. UAH requires that 25% of total requirements and 12 of the final 18 degree hours are completed with UAH courses. The College of Business will only review or approve a business discipline course for transfer credit if the institution at which the student took the course meets at least one of the following criteria:

  1. The college or school of business (or relevant division) at the institution is currently accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, or AMBA; or
  2. The institution is ranked by US News and World Report in the Top 200 National Liberal Arts Colleges in the current year.

The College of Business will not review or approve 100- or 200-level courses for transfer credit at the 300- or 400-level.

Students participating in Study Abroad must seek review and approval of courses to assure they will receive transfer credit prior to enrolling in the courses at an institution abroad.

Procedure:
  1. Students who wish to transfer in upper division credit (3xx or 4xx level) from another regionally accredited four-year institution will initiate the request by submitting transcripts to the Office of the Registrar and providing a paper or electronic copy of the syllabus to their academic advisor in the College of Business.
  2. If the institution and the course syllabus meet the College of Business policy criteria for evaluation, the advisor will forward the syllabus to the relevant department chair at UAH.

The department chair may, at their discretion, approve or reject the proposed course credit transfer. The department chair may circulate the syllabus among faculty who teach the course at UAH or who are subject matter experts to solicit their input.

Transferring from a 2-Year College

A maximum of 60 semester hours of credit from a junior, community, or two-year college may be transferred and applied to a degree program at UAH.

Statewide Articulation Reporting System (STARS)

If you are transferring from a public two-year community college in Alabama, visit the STARS website to select a major and access a list of community colleges and core courses that will apply to your program of choice. UAH Pathways Program

Community College students currently enrolled at Calhoun Community College, Northeast Alabama Community College, Wallace State Community College, or J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College have the opportunity to participate in the UAH Pathways Program. Through this program, students can be enrolled at their community college and UAH simultaneously in order to complete their associate‚Äôs degree and begin coursework at UAH at the same time.  Visit the UAH Pathways site for more information about program benefits, requirements, and the application process.
