What is an Information System?

An information system is an integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and processing data and for delivering information, knowledge, and digital products. Organizations rely heavily on information systems to carry out and manage their operations, interact with their customers and suppliers, and compete in the marketplace. Governments deploy information systems to provide cost-effective services to citizens.

For Whom is this Program Designed?

The MS-IS degree program prepares students to enter the information systems and technology (IS/T) profession in a wide variety of positions. While the curriculum emphasizes both managerial and technical aspects of IS/T, its overall structure is designed to prepare students for a career leading to managerial- and/or executive-level positions related to IS/T. Students will learn to design, implement, and operate information systems with the purpose of providing organizational decision-makers with the information needed to manage effectively and efficiently. In addition, students will learn to obtain new business insights by using various business analytics and data management tools.

Why a Master's Degree in Information Systems?

The demand for MS-IS graduates is quite high since corporations use information systems to reach their potential customers with targeted messages over the Web, to process financial accounts, and to manage their human resources. Digital goods, such as electronic books and software, and online services, such as auctions and social networking, are delivered with information systems. Individuals rely on information systems, generally Internet-based, for conducting much of their personal lives: for socializing, study, shopping, banking, and entertainment. Organizations can improve performance and secure competitive advantage by moving quickly to learn from the data about customers, suppliers, employees, and competitors.

The MS-IS program is designed to meet the highest standards of curriculum quality, faculty excellence, and program relevance in accordance with the College of Business' accreditation by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Program prerequisites are kept to a minimum and the program is designed to meet the needs of students with a wide variety of educational backgrounds.
