Scholars Institute

The University of Alabama (UA) System Scholars Institute will be held May 15-16, in the Bryant Conference Center in Tuscaloosa. The Scholars Institute fosters a shared community of knowledge among members of the three UA System campuses. The Scholars Institute brings the campuses together to discover and discuss best practices in teaching, research, and service in new technologies. This year, we expect more than 200 faculty, instructors, and staff members to attend.

UAH is seeking individual and group proposals for lecture, panel, hands-on, poster, and roundtable sessions related to technology in teaching, learning, and research. Proposals should align with the institute theme, “Lessons Learned and Future Directions: Technology in Teaching, Research, and Service.” Proposals should also explore some aspect of technology’s role in teaching, research, and service. The UAH Provost, has generously agreed to provide some compensation to those attending and/or presenting at the institute. Attendees can visit the event without submitting a proposal.

Proposals must be submitted by 5 p.m., on Wednesday, April 5. Presenters will be notified no later than mid-April regarding the proposal status. Each campus may have up to 10 graduate student attendees/presenters. Colleagues from other area institutions, including K12 schools, often attend as well.

Since 2004, the UA System Scholars Institute has been hosted by one of the UA System campuses, rotating between The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Institute is an important professional development initiative for faculty in their use of technology in teaching and learning, particularly in support of the adaptation and use of new approaches to teaching with technology. Presentations emphasize quality, evidence of impact, tools, and pedagogical and practical approaches, with time for colleagues within and among campuses to engage in collaboration and knowledge sharing. The Institute also provides hands-on opportunities for practice and implementation of classroom and online tools.

We invite you to attend and be apart of the community of learners, register now!
