What is changing?
Lifetime email accounts for retirees are no longer being offered. Existing accounts for current retirees will not be impacted immediately, but plan will be put in place to phase out these accounts as well.
When is this change happening?
The change will take effect on July 15, 2025.
How does this impact me?
You will lose access to your UAH email accounts once you separate from the university. Faculty automatically keep their account for up to a year after separation before their account is suspended. Emeritus are unaffected by this change.
What do I do?
Ensure all personal data has been transferred out of your UAH account and all personal services (such as bank accounts, utility services, social media, or streaming services) use your personal email address rather than your UAH email address. Read below for more information about how you can transfer personal data out of your UAH account.
Why are things changing?
UAH policy 06.01.05, "Network, Computer, and Email Account Administration," has been updated. To view the full policy, please visit https://www.uah.edu/policies and select Network, Computer, and Email Account Administration.
Further details:
In compliance with UAH policy 06.01.05, "Network, Computer, and Email Account Administration," OIT will no longer support lifetime retiree accounts. There will be no changes to emeritus accounts at this time. To view the full policy, please visit https://www.uah.edu/policies and select Network, Computer, and Email Account Administration.
Please also make sure you haven’t used a UAH account for any personal services (such as bank accounts, utility services, social media, or streaming services). After the July 15th deadline, lifetime retiree accounts will no longer be accessible, so the account information for those services would need to be changed to use a different address before that date to avoid interruption in service/access.
Please keep in mind that UAH data is the property of UAH; only personal data should be migrated to your personal account. If you wish to migrate personal data from a UAH account to a private, personally-owned Google account, we recommend utilizing Google Transfer. To do so, visit takeout.google.com/transfer in a web browser, enter the Google email address to which you want to migrate your data, then follow the prompts. If you elect to utilize Google Transfer, please initiate the process by July 8th, 2025, as it may take up to a week for the migration to complete. To learn more, visit How to Migrate Your UAH Google Account to a Personal Account.
Alternatively, you may utilize Google Takeout to download an archive of your personal data. To do so, visit takeout.google.com in a web browser, select the data you wish to export, then follow the prompts. To learn more, visit Download Your UAH Google Account Data With Google Takeout.
