Dear UAH Community,
It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome you to our fall 2024 semester here at UAH. As you step onto our campus, you are joining a vibrant community of scholars, leaders and innovators.
This year’s Week of Welcome activities have been exciting. With more than 200 events, campus is buzzing and the atmosphere is friendly and warm. I have heard from many of our students, faculty and staff about how they are looking forward to a new beginning, a new challenge—and a new opportunity.
We have 20 new faculty members who are joining us this year. We are encouraged by how they will enlighten and educate our students.
Earlier this year, our students captured first place in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. It was the fifth time in the 30-year history of the event. Also, we placed eighth internationally in the 2024 University Rover Challenge and fifth among teams from the United States. I encourage you—if you are looking to get involved, take a look at the more than 170 student organizations. You will find your home.
And while you are looking for a chance to relax, support your fellow Chargers at one of our ballgames. Our student-athletes are winning. Our volleyball team is ranked number 2 in the Gulf South Conference Coaches Preseason Poll. This past spring, we announced new women’s and men’s basketball head coaches. I am looking forward to another fun season.
Finally, as you begin this new chapter, I encourage you to embrace the experiences and perspectives that make our community unique. Engage with your peers, participate in campus activities, and take full advantage of the resources available to you. Remember, this is not just a place of learning, but a place where lifelong friendships are formed and unforgettable memories are made.
Go Chargers!
