DID YOU KNOW?

Physical activity has a huge impact on overall well-being including heart health. It also helps you think better, perform better, sleep better and feel better.

Only one in five adults and teens get enough exercise to maintain good health.

The current recommendation for exercise is to get 150 minutes per week of moderately vigorous cardiovascular exercise or 75 minutes a week of vigorous cardiovascular exercise like an aerobics class. Ideally, this should be spread out over the course of the week along with 2 days of moderate to high-intensity muscle-strengthening exercises like weights or resistance training.

Making time for exercise increases the likelihood that it will be done.  Mark it in your planner.  Set a reminder on your phone or Smartwatch.

Physical activity is much more than just exercise. Just sitting less during the day can impact your overall health. Get up from your desk and take a quick walk down the hall.  Do some chair yoga or stretches.

Take another “Heart Healthy Selfie”!  Show us how you get active and post it to UAH’s social media.
