As a reminder, the following email changes are scheduled to occur tomorrow Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 9 A.M.

In an effort to reduce the risk of phishing and spam emails, OIT will enable two email security features on December 15, 2020 at 9 A.M.

The first is called Subject Tagging. This will add [External] to the subject line of email messages that originate from outside the uah.edu domain. Mailing list and email services that have already been designated as trusted will not be affected. Only the appearance (the subject line), and not the delivery, of the email message will change.

The second measure is to reduce the amount of spoofed emails. A spoofed email is a message that appears to originate from a @uah.edu email address but is not from an approved UAH email server. This change will increase the likelihood that any spoofed email will be marked as spam whether the email is sent to a UAH email account or outside account.

OIT has designated all known approved UAH email services as trusted. If you would like to verify that a service used by your group has been designated as such, please email helpdesk@uah.edu and list the service and email addresses used to send emails as @uah.edu email accounts or to UAH email accounts.

OIT has been testing both of these changes for the past 6 months. During this time, many services were identified that were designated as trusted.

Please let the OIT Help Desk know if, after December 15, 2020, you receive a message that is marked as external or marked as spam that should not be.
