The Office of the President in conjunction with the Office of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED) are pleased to announce that UAH will begin the self-study process as part of its application for designation as an Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) University.

The IEP University designation is a distinguished recognition of universities that have demonstrated a substantial, meaningful, and exemplary commitment to economic engagement at the institutional level.

Using the Economic Engagement Framework developed by APLU's Office of Economic Development and Community Engagement (OEDCE) and its Commission on Economic and Community Engagement (CECE), UAH will take advantage of the tools within the Framework to plan, implement, assess and advance economic engagement efforts.

This will provide UAH the opportunity to frame its contributions in terms of the economy and a larger socioeconomic context.

During the IEP designation self-study process Dr. Robert Linquist will lead an internal committee comprised of representatives from all aspects of the university that will review the many and varied ways that UAH works with its public-private partners to carry out:

  • Talent and Workforce Development
  • Innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-based economic development
  • Enrichment of Place through public service, outreach, extension, and community engagement

Committee members will be requesting assistance from faculty, researchers, staff, and students to help us tell our economic engagement story and will be gathering input on growing, improving. and advancing our economic engagement enterprise which will accelerate economic development in our region, nationally, and globally.

We appreciate the assistance and support of the UAH community as we move forward on the IEP University designation journey.
