Welcome to our new President, Dr. Darren Dawson, who arrived at UAH in late June.  He has been engaged in learning about our students, faculty and staff as well as about our campus.   He is meeting with the leadership of the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate,  and SGA and with the vice presidents, deans, and others in Academic Affairs, Research, Student Affairs, Advancement, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Finance and Administration.

Dr. Dawson is looking forward to the beginning of Fall semester and having the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff and students.  He is setting up opportunities to meet with the faculty, staff and students informally at the beginning of the semester and more formally at meetings at the colleges as fall semester progresses.  In the following paragraphs, the informal opportunities will be described first and then college meetings will be discussed.

The first opportunities to meet President Dawson in an informal setting will be the informal reception for faculty and staff before Freshman Convocation in the Student Services Building lobby starting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 20.  Dr. Dawson with be present from 6:00 to 6:45 P.M. when he will go meet the students as they come from the residence halls to the Convocation at the  Greenway Circle.  He will also be present after the Convocation at the President’s Picnic on the Greenway near Charger Union and the Intermodal Facility. 

The second opportunity to meet President Dawson informally will be at the Fall Picnic for faculty and staff that will be held on Friday, August 23rd starting at 4:00 P.M.  The picnic will be held on the Greenway at the tent near the Intermodal Facility.

During the fall semester, Dr. Dawson is planning to come to the colleges and meet with the faculty and staff.  The format of the meetings will be that President Dawson will give brief opening remarks and will then open the meeting up for questions and discussion. 

The following meetings will be scheduled with the faculty and staff in each college and academic support units:

Meetings with faculty, department chairs, associate deans, and deans in:

College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

College of Business

College of Education

College of Engineering

College of Nursing

College of Science

Meeting with faculty, staff, dean and director in the College of Professional and Continuing Studies and Library

Meetings with staff, associate deans, and deans in the following groupings:

  1. Colleges of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Business, Education, Honors, and Nursing
  2. Colleges of Science and Engineering, Institute for Science Education, and Alabama Space Grant Consortium
  3. Office of Information Technology, Registrar, and Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
  4. Graduate School and International Services, Undergraduate Research, Pre-Professional Advising, Student Success Center, Disability Support Services Collaborative Learning Center, and Enhanced Teaching and Learning

The Offices of the President and Provost will work collaboratively to set up these meetings during fall semester.  You will be notified of the date, time and place of your meeting.
