I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Lindquist, currently Associate Vice President for Contracts and Grants, as Interim Vice President for Research and Economic Development effective May 1. Bob received a BS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He joined UAH in 1992 as an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1996. In 1997 Bob moved to Corning’s Research Facility in Corning, NY where he rose to Liquid Crystal Technology Manager. He returned to UAH in 2003 as Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering and since has served as Director of UAH’s Center for Applied Optics, Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and, most recently, in his current role as Associate Vice President for Contracts and Grants.
Bob’s research interests include optical networking devices, liquid crystal components, integrated electronics on glass, photonics, planar waveguides, and micro- and nanofabrication technologies. He holds twelve US patents and is the author or co-author of over eighty journal and conference publications. His research has been supported by NSF, NASA, the US Army, and industry.
