Biography

Josh Couts is a versatile jazz guitarist and educator with a strong foundation in the essential sub genres of bebop and hard bop. It’s Josh’s teaching philosophy and pedagogical approach of providing a foundation in the improvisation, composition, and arranging languages of those key decades of the music that are essential in student development.

In addition to a formal education in this music, Josh has gained a wealth of knowledge and understanding of performing by being on the bandstand with jazz greats such as Bobby Watson, Curtis Lundy, and Vincent Chancey at various jazz clubs across the southeast. Josh has had the opportunity to work extensively with Mr. Lundy including recording an album with him, Terreon Gully, and Louis Heriveaux.

Furthermore, Josh’s study and appreciation of South American and classical styles on the guitar help to set him apart as a well rounded composer, performer, and educator.
