Biography

Xiaoti Fan, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Her research explores the complexities of interpersonal communication, with a particular emphasis on deception in mediated and cross-cultural contexts. She is especially interested in how individuals deceive, are deceived, and detect deception within interpersonal relationships, particularly through digital platforms where cultural norms, technological affordances, and relational dynamics intersect. Her work seeks to illuminate how communication shapes honesty, trust, and relational maintenance across diverse cultural contexts.
