Dr. Piyawan Charoensap-Kelly

Biography

Piyawan Charoensap-Kelly is a Lecturer in the Communication Arts Department at The University of Alabama in Huntsville and recently completed her PhD in Communication Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her dissertation explored employees’ emotional change and intended negotiation behavior when their male versus female managers addressed the employees’ core concerns underaccommodatingly, accommodatingly, and overaccommodatingly. The research also examined how employee perception of manager goodwill mediated the effects of the core concerns negotiation. Dr. Charoensap-Kelly received the 2016 National Communication Association’s Training and Development Rising Star Award and is an immediate past Co-Chair of the division.

Before returning to academia, she had a ten-year professional experience in diverse areas including administration, sales, translation, management, training, and consulting. Her research interests include conflict management, organizational communication, identity management, intercultural communication, training and development, and humor. Her recent work can be found in the Business and Professional Communication Quarterly, the Journal of Education Advancement and Marketing, and the Handbook of Communication Training.
