COVID-19 Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund-III (ARP Funding /HEERF-III) American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (H.R. 1319) February 16, 2022: The final decision for ARP funding has been approved. All enrolled students will receive funding. The funding levels are as follows: FAFSA EFC AY 21-22 Amount of funding awarded: 0 $1000 <10000 $850 <20000 $700 <30000 $600 <40000 $550 40000-99999999 $450 NO FAFSA/NO EFC $350 We will begin applying funding this week, keep in mind the following: EFC changes will only be considered as funding allows You will have limited time to cash/deposit paper checks which must be mailed Lost or expired checks is the responsibility of the student We will process direct deposits first and checks in subsequent weeks based on alphabet. Each student will see a credit on the student account and a subsequent entry once the refund is processed. If you want to use these funds toward the balance, you will need to make a payment after you have received the funding. January 6, 2022: UAH will be awarding the remaining portion of HEERF III Allocations during Spring 2022. The committee will convene and make recommendations for distribution after January 18. We will not have any additional information until the committee work is complete. Fall 2021 funding is closed and cannot be processed. If you do not have a direct deposit on file, checks are automatically processed and mailed. May 11 , 2021: In addition to the two previous award amounts, UAH has been notified that we will receive a third allocation of 8,408,518 from the HEERF III Allocations for Public and Nonprofit Institutions under ARP section 2003(a)(1) for Student Aid Portion (CFDA 84.425E Allocation). UAH acknowledges that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. UAH will notify eligible students as soon as the funding distribution is decided. If you applied after that date, your application will be processed next week. 2663 students were processed for direct payment; those students will have two entries on their student account. One entry will be the applied credit and the subsequent entry moves the credit to a refund. 900 students were processed to credit toward the student account. The credit will be applied to charges and if a credit balance exists we will process it as a refund. Update October 19, 2021 - UAH has processed a payment of $500 to 490 students previously enrolled (not enrolled Fall 2021) who were not offered the opportunity to apply for CARES funding where possible - eligibility determined at awarding. Students who received only Spring 2021 funding were included as those were awarded through a matrix and not applications. For clarity - actual applicable criteria- Utilizing EFC meets Pell and financial need criteria. The funds were allocated based on payment of pell amount. 280 students were awarded the final ARP payment to close the grant. The remaining allocation of $72,242.15 was evenly distributed based on the number of students deemed eligible. The remaining $2.15 was paid via cents based on the recommendation of the Controller. Students were notified via the Bursar email account. FAQ: Who is eligible for HEERF III in emergency financial aid grants?UAH is offering an opportunity to apply for HEERF III to all enrolled students for fall 2021 before expanding the opportunity to others. What qualifies as emergency costs? Examples include but are not limited to: You had trouble finding employment to help with living expenses while attending school Any category related to Cost of Attendance: Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, Books, Personal and Misc. You had to withdraw from your classes and still owe charges on your student account Your internet/WiFi at home was insufficient and you were forced to upgrade your plan With all your classes being virtual this past year, you had to buy a new laptop You incurred additional medical or mental health expenses Are graduate students eligible for HEERF III?Yes, all enrolled UAH students qualify. How will UAH determine who will be approved and the amount of the HEERF III grant?Priority funding will go to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional need such as Pell eligible and low expected family contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA. However, all active students who have emergency expenses and submit requests on the Emergency Relief Form are considered for funds until funding is exhausted. Funding amounts are determined by need and availability of funds.
