Course Cancellations

Noncredit courses are self-supporting and classes are subject to cancellation if there is insufficient enrollment. In the event of course cancellation, participants will be notified in a timely manner and will have the option of applying fees paid to another course or receiving a course fee refund.

Refund, Withdrawal, and Transfer Policy

Failure to participate in a course or program does not constitute withdrawal. Refunds and transfers will not be honored for failure to participate. All withdrawals with a refund or transfer requests must be received before logging into the course or participating in-person/live virtually. If a refund is granted, funds must be processed to the original form of payment.

If you would like to withdraw from a course and receive a refund:

  • You must request a withdrawal refund within five business days of registering for an online on-demand course or within five business days of the start date of an in-person or live virtual course. Please submit all withdrawal refund requests to coordinators@uah.edu. After the five-business day period, you may still withdraw, but a refund cannot be issued. This includes if you register for more than one course at once.
  • If you have logged into the online on-demand course or attended an in-person/live virtual course, you may still withdraw, but a refund cannot be issued.
  • Please note that there will be a 10% processing fee for each withdrawal refund issued. (Ex: If you withdraw from two courses and are issued a refund for each, a 10% processing fee will be applied to each course separately.)
  • Please note that "no showing" in an online on-demand course or an in-person/live virtual course does not merit an automatic withdrawal and refund. If you would like a refund, please follow the steps listed above.

If you would like to transfer from a course:

  • You must request a transfer within five business days of registering for an online on-demand course or within five business days of the start date of an in-person or live virtual course. Please submit all transfer requests to coordinators@uah.edu. After the five-business day period, a transfer cannot be issued.

If a course is canceled due to instructor illness, weather, or other related instances by UAH, a refund will be issued with no processing fee, or a request to transfer to another course will be applicable.

Services for Students with Disabilities

UAH Disability Support Services (DSS) provides special accommodations for students with disabilities. Contact DSS at 256.824.1997 or uah.edu/dss at least one month prior to the start date of the class to allow advanced preparation. Official documentation of the stated disability is required.

Tax Deduction

Treasury regulations may permit an income tax deduction for educational and training expenses (registration fees, travel, meals, and lodging) undertaken to maintain and improve professional skills.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

CEUs are nationally recognized non-academic credits for professional development and are granted for professional development courses. UAH Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) courses meet the requirements for providing CEUs.

Please note the following conversion rates into Professional Development Hours (PDH), Continuous Learning Points (CLP), Professional Development Units (PDU), and Certified Professional Education Units (CPE).

  • One CEU = 10 clock/contact hours of instruction
  • One PDH, CLP, PDU, or CPE = one contact hour of instruction
  • One CEU = 10 PDH, CLP, PDU, or CPE

Successful course completion requires participants to attend 80% of scheduled class meetings (and complete associated exams or projects, if applicable). The noncredit course grading system is Pass/Fail. Participants receive a certificate or letter of completion indicating the number of CEUs earned. Individual CEUs earned through the UAH Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) are recorded in the attendee’s name. A transcript is available for $10 through the Noncredit Registration Office.

CEUs provide a permanent record of an individual’s educational accomplishments in an organized, continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. UAH Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) use of the CEU follows the accepted criteria and guidelines established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), which complies with internationally recognized standards of The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).

To determine whether CEUs may be applied toward professional certification, licensing requirements, or other required training or continuing education hours, consult your training department or licensing authority.

Campus Parking Regulations

UAH uses zoned parking. As part of registration, course participants will be issued a Commuter Parking Permit at the opening session. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to hang your permit on your rearview mirror. Campus parking information and Zoning Maps may be found at uah.edu/map.

Students enrolled in a course lasting longer than 15 weeks must register their vehicle and display a current UAH Student Parking Permit. For more information, please contact UAH Parking Services at (256) 824-6595 or parking@uah.edu.

Inclement Weather

UAH Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) courses will not meet if UAH closes due to inclement weather. Check local radio/television broadcasts for closing announcements.

Transcripts and Grades

CEUs earned through the UAH Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) are recorded in the attendee's name. A transcript is available for $10 by submitting your request to the Noncredit Registration Office.

Letter grades are not granted for noncredit courses. Assignments and quizzes may be given for courses preparing for professional exams and in online learning courses.

Certificate Program Completion

Participants must complete all of the certificate program courses in a professional field within a five-year period. Upon completion of the final course, submit a Certificate Completion Form to receive an overall certificate.

If a certificate program is updated or retired during this five-year period, the UAH Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) staff will work with active participants to provide the best alternatives for program completion.

Acceptable Proof of U.S. Citizenship

For select courses, participants must be U.S. citizens and provide verification of citizenship. Visit opce.uah.edu/citizenship for more details.

State and Association Requirements

To determine whether CEUs may be applied toward professional certification, licensing requirements, or other required training or continuing education hours, consult your training department or licensing authority.
