Elizabeth Wilson is making waves in The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)/Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) Dual Nursing Program, not only as a dedicated student but also as the newly crowned Ms. NACC. Her nursing journey is deeply personal, inspired by her grandmother, a longtime nurse who instilled in her a love for patient care from an early age. Watching her grandmother work, Elizabeth developed an appreciation for the little things—like the precision of folding hospital corners or understanding the importance of nutrition—which ultimately ignited her passion for nursing.

As part of the UAH/NACC Dual Nursing Program, Elizabeth is working toward both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from UAH and her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) at the same time. The program’s flexible online coursework allows students to expand their opportunities while balancing hands-on clinical experiences. One of the highlights of her time in the program so far has been the opportunity to observe a live surgery—an experience she finds incredibly exciting.

I worked in a physical therapy clinic while finishing my prerequisites, so I’ve always had a strong interest in orthopedics,” Elizabeth shares. “Getting the chance to observe a surgery has been one of the most exciting moments in my nursing journey so far.

Beyond the classroom, Elizabeth is already making an impact in her community. She was recently awarded an apprenticeship in the Emergency Department at her hometown hospital, an opportunity she describes as both a privilege and a responsibility. Through this role, she is gaining valuable real-world experience while giving back to the people who have supported her journey.

For those considering a career in nursing, Elizabeth believes that empathy is key. “If you care about people and can truly empathize with them, nursing is one of the best careers you could choose. What an honor it is to serve your community.”Looking ahead, she is eager to continue developing her skills and hopes to leave a lasting impact in the field of healthcare.
