With school back in session, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, part of The University of Alabama System, has welcomed yet another class of high-achieving Chargers.

2024 brings greater enrollment percentages across multiple Alabama counties, including those in the Birmingham (Jefferson and Shelby) and Mobile (Baldwin and Mobile) areas, and freshman enrollment from Tennessee has increased by roughly 8.5% over last year. “I am pleased by the growth in enrollment outside of North Alabama,” said UAH President Chuck Karr. “This underscores the university’s continued commitment to recruit students from across our state and elsewhere in the southeast.”

3.9 GPA and 26.4 ACT statistics for the 2024 Freshman Class.

The 1,212 new freshmen join an overall undergraduate enrollment of 6,800, while the Graduate School boasts 1,764 students. The 2024 incoming class remains exceptionally academically talented, with an average high school GPA of 3.9 and average ACT score of 26.4. “These numbers are impressive. UAH is committed to providing our students with an environment of academic excellence, and it is clear that we are continuing to attract the brightest minds,” said Karr. “We are proud of what we offer our students.”

In addition to offering top-notch faculty, UAH places a focus on hands-on, experiential learning and real-life research. UAH remains an R1 research university and ranks first in the State of Alabama in six categories of federal research expenditures. In 2024, the university marked 11 straight years with five or more research programs in the top 25 nationally.

Due to its comparatively low cost and high return on investment, UAH has repeatedly been named a “best value” university. “Students are drawn to UAH not only because of our reputation for academic excellence, but also because it’s simply a smart choice,” said Karr. Last year, UAH was named the “best value in Alabama” for the eighth time. In 2024, the Wall Street Journal ranked UAH in the top 35% of universities nationally, with the awarded schools representing the top 10% of all U.S. colleges and universities. Niche.com listed UAH as the fourth best public university in Alabama in 2024.

Applications for admission are now open for Fall 2025. High school juniors and seniors are invited to take a sneak peek of campus at upcoming events for prospective students. UAH at a Glance will be held on Saturday, October 12, and Saturday, November 9. The Office of Admission will also host numerous Prospective Student Receptions throughout Alabama and in surrounding states this fall.
