ChargerCon returns to UAH for Homecoming weekend

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will host ChargerCon on Saturday, Feb. 21, bringing a full day of gaming, pop culture and creativity to UAH’s Homecoming celebrations. The free, all-ages convention runs from noon to 9 p.m. in Charger Union – a new location for 2026 due to ongoing construction at the Conference Training Center (CTC). UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System.

One of the university’s largest annual student-led events, ChargerCon features a wide range of activities, including video game tournaments, artist market, free-play gaming areas, a cosplay contest, karaoke, workshops and panels, an indie game alley and hands-on creative experiences. Many events include prizes, with select tournaments offering optional buy-ins that contribute directly to prize pools.
“ChargerCon showcases what happens when students are given the space and support to build something meaningful for the campus and the community,” said Vinny Argentina, associate professor of art, animation and game design at UAH and faculty advisor overseeing the event. “With construction underway at the CTC, moving the event to the Charger Union creates a new environment for ChargerCon while keeping the spirit of the event intact. Tying it into Homecoming makes it an even more exciting part of the weekend.”
UAH Esports will host multiple tournaments and special events throughout the day. New Challenger Approaching (NCA), a nonprofit off-campus gaming organization, will host free fighter-game tournaments for Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive, with on-site registration available.
The Splatoon 3 Tournament, hosted by UAH Esports, will feature a $5 entry fee, with all proceeds awarded as prizes. Consoles and controllers will be provided, though participants may bring their own equipment.

Cosplay remains a central part of ChargerCon, with participants encouraged to showcase original designs and character interpretations. The UAH Anime Club will host interactive games, performances and moderated discussions, highlighted by this year’s debate, “Unpopular Pop Culture Opinions.”
Additional activities include a step performance by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Madden coaching sessions, open gaming areas and spontaneous mini-competitions with prizes awarded throughout the day.
ChargerCon is open to all ages; parents or guardians must supervise minors. More information, including schedules and updates, is available at chargercon.com.
