TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design), a nonprofit organization devoted to "ideas worth spreading" began as a four-day conference in California more than two decades ago. TEDx is an independently organized program of local, events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

The special UAHuntsville live stream is a global TEDx event organized by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The program will give academicians, activists professionals, artists, and business leaders from the Huntsville area the opportunity to share ideas and collaborate through TED-like experiences at the local level.

Participants will take a step back and apply new perspectives to big picture issues. Why, as a global society, should we continue to invest in overseas development? How can we work across borders and political boundaries to bring about positive change? And what returns can we expect on our investments?

Dr. Ravi Patnayakuni in the College of Business is looking for members of the community interested in TED to form a CLUB TED at UAHuntsville and organize program events. Patnayakuni is an associate professor in the Department of Economics and Information Systems, and coordinator of the university's first TEDxChange event.

The annual TED conference invites the world's leading thinkers and activists to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at www.TED.com. Speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. TED has established an annual prize where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes in action.
