The Arts Council will kick off the second year of its 2014-2016 SPACES Sculpture Trail at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, with a short presentation from Allison Dillon-Jauken, Executive Director. Curves, one of the sculptures on the trail, will offer a backdrop to the event. Curves is located on the campus of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) between Wilson Hall and the Business Administration Building.

"UAH is happy to continue its partnership with The Arts Council, supporting the SPACES Sculpture Trail," says Christopher Taylor, an assistant professor of sculpture in UAH's Art & Art History Department. "This year we tried to place the new sculptures in areas where the UAH community would have close interaction with the works. We have also retained a substantial amount of sculpture from previous years. All of these works serve as valuable teaching material as we discuss the construction and concept of sculpture in the classroom."

SPACES is a collaborative art project between The Arts Council, UAH, Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Museum of Art, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment Center, and the Madison Arts Council. The project's 37 sculptures can be found in nine locations across the city: UAH, Lowe Mill, Von Braun Center, the Huntsville Museum of Art, Downtown Square, Alabama A&M, Madison City Hall, Madison Dublin Park, Madison Main Street. A guided cell phone tour allows visitors and residents alike to learn more about each piece and its creator.
